On behalf of Ms. Boudreaux and her sixth grade art classes, please take a moment to enjoy the article attached below regarding the thoughts of students and some of the pictures captured during the visit of guest speaker and artist, Ines Alvidres. The students thoroughly enjoyed their visit with Ines Alvidres and learning about how art tells a story. A special thanks to Ms. Boudreaux for creating this opportunity for the students at TJMS.
On March 3, 2020, 30 TJMS Students left the campus to travel to Marshall MS in Beaumont to compete in the 2020 UIL A+ Academic competition. Traveling as well-prepared ambassadors, our team did very well. On Thursday March 5, 26 more Titans returned to Marshall to complete the competition.
These Titans were eager to compete and were coached by TJMS’s finest teachers. Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Gordon, Mrs. Crowder, Mrs. Brock, Mrs. Wheeler, Mrs. Garza, Mrs. Vincent, Mr. Reyes and Mr. Gengo all helped to prepare our students for this event.
After two days of intense competition, the results came in. Although all of the TJMS students are winners, some were recognized for their achievements. The TJMS results are as follows:
Dakari Wiltz - Placed 4th in 7th Grade Dictionary Skills
Amanda Truong - Placed 1st in 7th Grade Ready Writing; Placed 5th in 7th Grade Number Sense
Aura Martinez - Placed 1st in 8th Grade Ready Writing
Kaile Tran - Place 2nd in 8th Grade Ready Writing

Duante Grogan (7th) - Placed 1st in 8th Grade Prose
Christian Barajas - Placed 5th in 7th Grade Science
Zuri Alfaro - Placed 3rd (3 way tie) in 8th Grade Social Studies
On behalf of all of the coaches and TJMS Family we are proud of the work done by our students. Even though not everyone placed, all of our TJMS students came away as winners. They served as great ambassadors exhibiting tremendous character and discipline.
In years past, there have been two categories at UIL. They were Large School and Small School. TJMS usually place 3rd or so under this arrangement. This equates to 6th place in point totals. This year, the two categories were eliminated and only one category received trophies. TJMS came in 4th place in point totals which represents an improvement for TJMS. We only needed 4 more points to take third.
Congrats to all once again for a job well done.
TJMS UIL Academics Coordinator Damon Gengo
